After school art club

Mr O Sullivan ran an 8 week after school art club for boys from 1st – 4th class. The following is an outline of the activities undertaken: Week 1: Drawing gamesWeek 2: Fabric and fibre portraits. The boys were each given a sheet with half a portrait on it. They had to create the other half using fabric and fibre. Week 3: Fabric and fibre People. The boys were given templates of a face and a body. They had to create any person they wanted, using fabric and fibre. We brainstormed ideas of all the different people they could create – soccer players, astronauts and Lady Gaga were just some of the ones chosen!       Week 4: Canvas board shape designs. Each boy was given a canvas board with different shapes on it, which were made by criss-crossing tape across the canvas. The boys were given the task of painting designs in between the tape. They then removed the tape and were left with very effective shape canvases! Week 5: Animal drawing tutorials. Week 6: Animal clay modelling. Week 7: Painting clay animalsWeek 8: Michelangelo – lie down drawing. The boys learned all about the very famous artist Michelangelo. They learned how he painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel by lying on his back. It took him four years!! The boys replicated Michelangelo’s technique by lying on their back on the floor and drew pictures on a sheet stuck to the underside or “ceiling” of their tables. They had great fun doing this activity!

Here are photos of some of the activities undertaken by these budding artists!!
