Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh is proud to be involved in the Green School’s Programme. Green Schools is Ireland’s leading environmental, management and education programme for schools which is operated and coordinated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce. Our fantastic Green School Committee helps guide us in our efforts to be the healthiest and most environmentally friendly school we can be.
To date we have four Green Flags for Litter and Waste, Water, Energy and Travel. We are currently working towards getting our 5th Green Flag for Biodiversity.
Biodiversity looks at steps which can be taken in schools to increase awareness of the importance of native plants, animals and habitats and to increase species-richness in a locality. Classes will be undertaking lots of fun activities over the next year to promote biodiversity within our school.
We recently held a competition asking classes to come up with a Biodiversity Slogan for our School. The response was amazing. It was so hard to narrow it down that we ended up having to combine two slogans!!
