Evening classes for parents

Dear Parents

In an effort to capitalise on the skills and expertise of the parents of the boys in Scoil an Spioroid Naoimh, the Parents Association proposes to run a 4 week programme of evening classes in the school, open to all parents of Scoil an Spioroid Naoimh Boys and Girls.

It is proposed that one evening a week for 4 weeks, parents will attend a series of 1 hour classes in the discipline of their choice, with the classes being delivered by suitably qualified, volunteer parents. Participating parents can attend one 4 week programme and pay €5 per class. Suggestions for classes currently include the following:

  • Conversational Irish
  • Conversational English for non native speakers
  • Introduction to the Irish legal system
  • Introduction to health/safety/nutrition for children

It is hoped that this endeavour will be welcomed by all parents. However its success is dependent upon parent participation – in respect of both the delivery of classes by some, and attendance at classes by others.

As a preliminary step we would like to invite any interested and willing parents to indicate if they are in a position to deliver a 4 week (4 x 1 hour) programme, or indeed contribute to such a programme. We welcome all areas of knowledge! Please contact the Chair of the Parents Association Louise Crowley at l.crowley@ucc.ie or 087 8341481 by Friday 30 January next to indicate your interest and availability.

Once we have a list of potential programmes it is envisaged that all parents will be invited to sign up to their subject of choice. It is hoped that these evenings will not only be informative for attending parents but will also serve to demonstrate the wealth of knowledge that can be shared amongst the parent body. In this regard it will act as a positive means of encouraging parents in to the school and create an inclusive and mutually beneficial environment.

Why not grab this opportunity to participate in the positive learning environment at SSN (B) as well as the chance to say hello to those parents you usually run past in the morning rush?

We look forward to hearing from you!

Regards and thanks
